Amy Commander
My work as History of Touches bridges fashion and craft, honoring quilting traditions while embracing recycled apparel, deadstock, and scrap textiles. I reclaim these materials through patchwork and stitching, preserving stories while transforming them into contemporary forms. My process for creating both quilts and garments is rooted in resourcefulness and distinct sartorial sensibilities, reflecting the resilience and creativity embedded in handmade traditions.
Textile work has always been an act of care and continuity, connecting past and present. Each composition brings together narratives of lineage and renewal, reinforcing a vision of sustainability that is both practical and poetic. Through this work, I hope to foster a deeper appreciation for material responsibility and the beauty of reinvention. My pieces reflect a personal narrative, capturing introspections on joy, interconnectedness, and transformation.
